Some cool news!! I had the opportunity to work with Bon Appetit Magazine to create an illustration that will be progressing all year long on the spines of all the 2013 issues. It’s a growing image of seasonal ingredients. the ingredients on the spine of every months issue are in season that month. When you put all the issues from this coming year side by side in order, they create one illustration—tada! I’ve been so excited about this project and I’m so stoked it’s finally here!!

As Luce reported…..the honey is here! Last weekend, the fam suited up to extract the twenty five frames from our hive in order for them to dry out for a week before the true extraction. We brushed each frame off, the ladies kindly obliged frame by frame. Experiencing the major honey crop that we did, it made me realize just how amazing nature is. We didn’t take all of the honey, as the ladies have been working for months on that sugary goodness and need the energy to survive through the winter. But examining every frame and the intricate care that went into constructing the comb was mind-blowing. Raising honeybees has been easily the most amazing natural occurrences I have ever partaken in. The honeybees are incredible.

*video to come!

Honey is jarred labels are made ! After several months of hard work, our ladies have produced an excellent crop this year—the sweetest liquid golden happiness I’ve ever tasted. For those of you who have been following our beekeeping progress, none of this could have been possible without the passion, hard work, and researched determination Kirby put forth for her bees. Nothing could be more satisfying than her reaction to the first drip of honey. It was well worth the effort. Great work Kirb you’re an inspiration!

the harvest plucked from the backyard upon our arrival back from michigan- quite spectacular. with such bounty, there were many a garden salad, and quarts upon quarts of fresh tomato sauce for future pasta nights, with basil from the garden as well of course.
